Hello everyone, I would like to share my experience of becoming a national athlete. My name is Nakesya Azkia Sakhi, usually called Kesya. I am a national fencing athlete.
I have been a fencing athlete since I was in the 2nd grade in 2020. Since then, I have been introduced to the world of martial arts.
Among many martial arts, I am only interested in one sport, namely fencing. I got to know fencing because my uncle invited me. He was the first person who introduced me to this sport.
In 2020, I joined IKASI Banda Aceh. However, due to a small problem, in 2021 I moved to IKASI Aceh Besar. There, I trained seriously to achieve my dream of becoming a national athlete.
In August 2022, for the first time, I participated in a provincial championship. I hoped to win first place, but unfortunately, I was eliminated in the top 3. Did that failure make me stop?
Of course not. I turned that failure into motivation. At the end of 2022, I was selected to represent Aceh in a national championship in Jakarta. My dream came true—I was able to compete at the national level. However, I was eliminated in the top 10.
At that moment, I almost gave up on fencing. But thanks to the support of people around me, I chose to keep going. I worked hard day and night, training continuously to improve my skills.
Finally, my efforts paid off. I won many matches and became a proud athlete representing Aceh. I turned my past failures into motivation to achieve success.
My most recent achievements in fencing include:
- Gold medal in Women’s Cadet Foil
- Silver medal in Junior Women’s Foil
- Bronze medal in Women’s Team Foil (as Team Captain)
These achievements were earned at the 2025 Pre-PORA Championship, and they also secured me a ticket to compete at PORA.
Looking ahead, my dream is to break a world record in fencing.
That’s all I can share. Thank you for your attention.
