People say that You, Planet Earth, are lonely
because there is no life beyond your frontiers.
People say that in this vast Universe, You alone
have innumerable living organisms and species.
You alone possess life forms in great diversity.
Is there no life out there among the millions
of stars with planets in our galaxies?
Scientists say that there are at least ten trillion
planetary systems in the Universe.
With an expanse so immense, how can people say
for sure that there is no life outside You,
Planet Earth? What we humans know about life in
the Universe is blindingly limited.
What sayest Thou, Planet Earth? What do You feel?
Should we believe that there is no life out there?
When we see a myriad of heavenly stars shining at night
Or find in the desert shimmering slivers of a meteorite
We cannot help but imagine that there is something
about life in the Universe that You are not telling us.
But pray-tell, are You really lonely or just plain sad?
Sad and troubled that life on your planet is slowly dying.
Your temperature is rising and becoming more perilous.
Global warming is inducing killer droughts and flooding,
Causing sea levels to rise and destroying biodiversity.
Climate crisis is rapidly ending life on your planet.
Most probably, You are feeling sorry and sad about
seeing life slowly dying here on earth.
You may be contemplating the question:
What’s the use of looking for life out there,
when you humans do not even know
how to take care of life that is already here?
